August General Meeting

The General Meeting is on Friday, 19 August 2022. The meeting will begin at 6:30pm.

The title of the talk is ‘National conservatism: a fresh start from libertarianism’

Second General Meeting- 9 July 2021

The second EBC general meeting for 2021 will be held on Friday 9 July at the Melbourne Savage Club- arrive at 6:00pm for a start at 6:30pm.

The presentation will continue to be on Christopher Olaf Blum’s compilation of French counter enlightenment thinkers, Critics of the Enlightenment: Readings in the French Counter-Revolutionary Tradition. The final three thinkers in the text will be covered.

We will be having dinner at a nearby restaurant after the meeting. The RSVP date is Tuesday 6 July.

Annual General Meeting – 2020-21, followed by presentation from Dr Martin Black

The Edmund Burke’s Club of Australia Inc. will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for 2020-21 on Friday, 4th December, 2020 at the Savage Club in Melbourne. The business of the AGM will involve the conduction of elections for the forthcoming year on the Club executive. Members and guests are asked to arrive by 6 pm for drinks and finger food. The meeting will then commence at 6:30 pm sharp.

Following this, Dr Martin Balck will be presenting on “The Post-Modern World: The Enlightenment Gone Mad”, developing a theme from his last presentation.

Dinner will then take place at the Savage Club immediately following the meeting.

General Meeting (August 2019) – Britain and the European Union:

The third Edmund Burke’s Club general meeting for 2019 will be held on Friday, 30th August at the Melbourne Savage Club. Attendees are asked to arrive at 6 pm for a 6:30 pm start.

The presentation will be on the topic of the European Union and Brexit. The talk is being presented by our long serving secretary, Mr. Stephen Jury. The paper will touch on Christendom as an old model of European unity.

As usual, we will have dinner at the RACV Club afterwards. RSVPs for those able to attend the meeting and/or the dinner are required by Tuesday, 27 August and can be made by contacting edmundburkeclub@gmail.com.

General Meeting and Dinner (April 2019) – The Enlightenment in Australia (Part 2):

The second Edmund Burke’s Club general meeting for 2019 will be held on Friday, 26th April at the Melbourne Savage Club. Attendees are asked to arrive at 6 pm for a 6:30 pm start.

The presentation will be on the topic of Archbishop John Polding and his response to the forces of the Enlightenment in Australia. Like our last talk, club President Lucas McLennan will draw upon aspects of his own Master’s research into this topic area.

Whereas in the last presentation, the focus was on the life and times of the first Australian Anglican Bishop, this paper will look at the Catholic Church.

At the conclusion of the talk, there will be a two course dinner with wine included, at the Savage Club, for $65 per person. Attendees are asked to book and pay online at the following link:

General Meeting (February 2019) – The Enlightenment in Australia:

The first Edmund Burke’s Club of Australia general meeting for 2019 will be held on Friday, 22nd February at the Savage Club – arrive at 6:00pm for a start at 6:30pm.

The presentation will be on the topic of the Enlightenment in Australia and the involvement of several key political and ecclesial figures in opposing aspects of this movement. President Lucas McLennan will draw upon aspects of his Master’s research into this topic area.

Dinner will take place afterwards at a nearby Italian restaurant after the meeting. Please note that this is a different location from the usual arrangement at the RACV Club. The RSVP date is Tuesday 19 February and can be made via email at edmundburkeclub@gmail.com.

December General Meeting 2018:

The final Edmund Burke’s Club of Australia General Meeting for 2018 will be held on Friday, 7th December at the Savage Club. Members and guests are asked to arrive at 6 pm for pre-drinks with the talk to commence from 6:30 pm.Our speaker at the meeting will be Mr Patrick Byrne, the National President of the National Civic Council. He will be presenting on his recent publication, ‘Transgender: One Shade of Grey”.

 

We will also be holding a two-course (main and dessert) dinner at the Savage Club at the conclusion of the meeting. The price for this dinner will be $75.00. This price includes drinks during dinner.
