The third Edmund Burke’s Club meeting for 2025 will be held on Friday 3 October at the Melbourne Savage Club- arrive at 6:00pm for a start at 6:30pm.

Our speaker will be Peter Janssen. As announced at the last event, his topic will be ‘After Christendom: The statesman in More, Burke and Newman.’

I am grateful to Peter for bringing his expertise to this paper and preparing it over the past year. We will be having dinner at the Club after the meeting as usual. The RSVP date is Wednesday 1 October.

July 2025 Meeting

The second Edmund Burke’s Club meeting for 2025 will be held on Friday 18 July at the Melbourne Savage Club- arrive at 6:00pm for a start at 6:30pm.

Our speaker will be Brian Loughnane, former Federal Director of the Liberal Party. He will provide reflections on the result of the most recent Australian Federal Election.

December 2024 Meeting

For our fourth meeting (and Annual General Meeting) for the year we will have as our guest speaker, Brian Loughnane. He will speak on the topic of ‘Western conservativism in the aftermath of the US and UK elections.’

Brian served as the Federal Director of the Liberal Party from 2022 to 2016. He is currently the Deputy Chairman of the International Democrat Union.

The meeting will be held at the Melbourne Savage Club (12 Bank Pl, Melbourne) on Friday,  22 November. 6pm arrival for a 6:30pm start.

August 2024 Meeting

The third EBC meeting will be on Friday 09 August. Our speaker is Kevin Andrews. He served as the Federal member for Menzies for more than 30 years. He was a Minister in both the Howard and Abbott Governments.

He will base his remarks on a recent introduction for a collection of Burke writings that he has written.

May 2024 Meeting

The second EBC meeting for 2024 will be held on Friday 17 May at the Melbourne Savage Club- arrive at 6:00pm for a start at 6:30pm.

Our guest will be Dr. Kevin Donnelly. Kevin’s writings and public contributions (particularly on education) are well known through his writings and regular appearances in the media.

The first EBC meeting for 2024 will be held on Friday 9 February at the Melbourne Savage Club- arrive at 6:00pm for a start at 6:30pm.

Colin Black, the Headmaster of Camberwell Grammar School from 1987 to 2004 will be our guest speaker. He will discuss his educational and cultural journey as a conservative.

15 December Meeting

The fourth meeting (and Annual General Meeting) for the year will have a guest speaker. Paul Webster is a Melbourne based solicitor who has been involved in leading Monarchist organisations in Melbourne. We will be exploring the issue of the Crown and its significance considering the events of the past 18 months. He brings both his organisational and legal background to the topic

The talk will be preceded by a short AGM.

October 2023 Meeting 

The third EBC meeting for 2023 will be held on Friday 20 October at the Melbourne Savage Club- arrive at 6:00pm for a start at 6:30pm.

The topic of discussion will be the significance of education in our current cultural conflicts. We will draw on the expertise of those engaged in educational scholarship.

The RSVP date is Tuesday, 17 October.

The next EBC meeting  will be held on Friday 28 July at the Melbourne Savage Club- arrive at 6:00pm for a start at 6:30pm.

The topic ‘Religion and Free Speech: an uneasy relationship.’ This paper will be published in August in an edited collection based on the 2022 Dawson Centre Colloquium on “Freedom of Speech and Religion.” When posted online by the Dawson Centre, I’ll send through a link for those who may be interested in exploring the whole collection.

Dr Martin Black will give a talk on The human soul: ancient and modern. Dr. Black has presented for the Club before and runs the Melbourne Independent School of Philosophy ( https://www.independentschoolofphilosophy.org/ )
